Attack Aircraft of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps
Attack Aircraft of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps
As the title implies, this Detail & Scale book by Bert Kinzey surveys ground attack aircraft from the U.S. Navy and Marines since the end of World War II until the 1990s when Hornets replaced the A-6 and A-7 in that role. In all, 13 aircraft are covered starting with the AU-1 Corsair. The list includes well-known planes like the Skyraider, A-3 Skywarrior, A-4 Skyhawk, A-5 Vigilante, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair, and lesser-known types like the Martin Mauler, AJ Savage, and even the Douglas Skyshark. The final two chapters cover both versions of the AV-8 Harrier used by the Marines.
The 113-page softcover book details the history of each type and shows them in photos complemented by captions and color profiles. While not as detailed as Detail & Scale’s monographs, this is a great place to figure out what your next build of Navy and Marine attack aircraft will be. An Airfix A-4? Kinetic AV-8A? Or Roden’s new AJ Savage? ~Aaron Skinner, Editor of FineScale Modeler
